The Brazilian Permaculture Groups and Studies Network launched the 2nd edition of Teaching Permaculture w. The book aims to guide educators for basic training in permaculture and brings numerous updates and new chapters in e-book format. Teaching permaculture is more than just learning techniques, as it comprises full training revealing the world through a systemic view, which helps in decision-making, encouraging and empowering.
Permaculture has been consolidating itself as a holistic socioenvironmental science, increasingly requested by professors and academics from the most diverse areas of knowledge. It also appears as an important “tool” to support the critical environmental education of primary, secondary, and technical school students. In addition, it is increasingly present in government organizations, institutes and sites of permaculture practice.
This work is not an isolated initiative, it accompanies a series of actions that the Permaculture Groups are spreading throughout Brazilian universities, aiming the consolidation of permaculture in academia. This involves the creation of teaching initiatives, research and extension projects, including the training of farmers and teachers from all education levels.
Since its first edition launched in 2019 by NEPerma/UFSC, the book Teaching permaculture has also become part of a digital platform for the exchange of knowledge, where the reader will find dynamically updated versions of contents that will make up future editions of books, as well as editions already published with static content in PDF format.
This second edition brings additional contents on teaching permaculture along the lines of the permaculture planning (PDC), also a new section that addresses two experiences in permaculture in basic education. The NEPerma Brazil Network and NEPerma/UFSC hope that this work should be useful to all permaculture instructors, working in universities, technical schools, basic education, institutes and permaculture stations, who seek, in the same way that we propagate and popularize permaculture knowledge in it social outreach zone and beyond.
